YouTube Fix: ‘Could not update video settings. Please try again later.’

The annoying “Could not update video settings. Please try again later.”
YouTube error appeared to me several times without any proper reason.

It popped up today as well when I was getting ready to publish a video tutorial on my (not anymore) WordPress channel.

I’m glad it appeared today, though, because it allowed me to write this post for you guys. 😀

Could not update video settings. Please try again later. YouTube error

Luckily, I learned a trick some time ago that fixed the problem every time, at least for me.

And, in this guide, I’ll share it with you.

Fix the “Could not update video settings. Please try again later.” YouTube Error

Before carrying on with the solution, make sure you copy your description, even though YouTube should save the video as a draft.

Also, first, make sure there’s nothing wrong with your video, thumbnail, description, and other stuff that might trigger the error.

Let’s see the fix now!

Step 1

Leave the editing area by clicking on the Return to YouTube Studio button at the bottom.

You can also access your YouTube Studio by clicking on your profile image in the top-right.

Step 2

On the left sidebar, click on Videos.

Step 3

Since the video wasn’t published because of that error, it will be a Draft.

Click on the drop-down arrow and select Public.

The video should be published now!

If that doesn’t work:

Click on the video’s link to enter the editing area.

Now, select Public from the Visibility drop-down.

If that doesn’t work either:

Open the YouTube Studio in a new browser window (you can try a new tab as well) and repeat the above process.

If none of the above work, then you’ll just have to wait and try to publish the video once every few minutes.

This won’t work if you get the error while trying to edit a lot of videos.

In the past, I edited some videos to change the audio, and it wouldn’t let me edit more than 5 videos (hope I remember correctly) one after another.

I had to wait for some time before editing the next batch.
